Normal People wasn’t a stark departure from the world Sally Rooney explored in her first novel, both stories were set in Dublin and the main characters were in their university years. The novel was longlisted for the Booker Prize and was popularly lauded as the book of the year. Sally Rooney’s second book, Normal People, was released in 2019 garnering mainstream success and critical acclaim.
